Japanese boro

Just like Fine Little Day, I am fascinated with the recycled Japanese Boro textiles. Dating back to 1600s,  Boro textiles were made by impoverished Japanese from reused indigo-dyed cotton rags. With Boro technique, new uses for discarded materials are created by layering several pieces of cloth, attaching each together with sashiko stitching.  These patchwork textiles were mended and passed down from generation to generation, however, Boro remained largely unknown because of its embarrassing associations with poverty.
